About Alran Leather & NBR Cork

Alran Sully is a vegetable-assisted, chrome-tanned leather produced by Tanneries Alran in France. Known for its distinct pebbled grain and firm temper, it holds records securely and stays flat over long-term use.

The bottom layer uses an NBR (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber) cork composite. Unlike standard craft cork bound with simple adhesives, NBR cork is an engineered material built for automotive engines, oil seals, and heavy machinery isolation. Synthetic rubber encapsulates the cork granules, giving the mat added mass, complete resistance to drying or flaking, and long-term elasticity that stays flat against the platter. Both layers are cleanly laminated to resist warping or separation over daily handling.
